Despite the financial crisis in the country, mass reductions in educational programs at Ukrainian universities, and their occasional closure, the International Humanitarian University never ceased its development for a moment. Domestic troubles and budget cuts barely affected the quality of the educational services provided by IHU, as the institution had a private form of ownership, and the extensive system of international cooperation ensured the stability of the University's operations and provided opportunities for students to complete internships and find employment abroad.
For this reason, instead of shrinking, the staff of the International Humanitarian University only accelerated its expansion, introducing new specialities that, thanks to the robust infrastructure and consistently high level of teaching, quickly became popular among applicants.
A vivid example of this was the opening on August 20, 2012, of the Faculty of Art and Design. The "Design" specialization, which had been established in 2008 within the Faculty of Computer Science and Innovative Technologies, gained such great success and extraordinary interest among IHU students that by 2012, the creation of a specialized faculty became an objective necessity.
In the beginning, the Faculty of Art and Design only trained professionals in printing, web design, computer graphics and visual arts. However, it soon expanded its educational activities to include the training of specialists in film and television arts. The faculty immediately filled a previously vacant sector in educational services, making it the most popular faculty in the field of art and design, not only in the Odessa region but also throughout Ukraine.
The teaching staff of the Department of Design, Department of Cinema and Television, and Department of Art Studies and General Humanities provided high-quality training of specialists at the Faculty of Art and Design between 2012 and 2017. The founders of the teaching direction "Art and Design" from its inception were: Honored Art Worker of Ukraine, Board Member of the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine, Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, Professor A. V. Tokaryev; Candidate of Art History V. V. Zhymolostova; Members of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine V. Y. Mezhevchuk, O. M. Karpushkin and Honored Artist of Ukraine G. A. Palatnikov.
Faculty members regularly participate in international and national exhibitions, master classes, and workshops. In just the first five years of existence, they created over 100 large-scale art and graphic projects.
Other structural subdivisions of the International Humanitarian University also developed at a similar pace. Due to a significant increase in the number of international students, as well as the establishment of close cooperation with educational institutions in Asia, the university management decided to create at the Faculty of Linguistics and Translation the Department of Germanic and Oriental Languages. The department specializes in: German, Chinese, and Arabic languages. In 2013, the Department of Business Administration and Corporate Security was established within the Faculty of Economics and Management, headed by Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Anatoliy Hryhorovych Honcharuk.
The most actively expanding division was the Odesa Medical Institute of the International Humanitarian University. In the first five years of its operation, the number of students in the Institute grew more than 10 times, as did the number of scientific research projects conducted by students and scholars of the department. As of 2017, the educational and scientific activities at the Odesa Medical Institute of IHU were carried out by faculty members of four departments: Department of General Medical Sciences, Department of General Dentistry, Department of Medical Chemistry and Biology, and Department of General and Clinical Pharmacology.
In addition, in October 2012, for students of the Odesa Medical Institute and the Medical Vocational College of the International Humanitarian University, a new academic building was opened at the address: 23, Fontanska Road. In addition to European-standard lecture halls, the new academic building featured modern pharmaceutical laboratories, where medical students had the opportunity to independently create medicinal and cosmetic products.
Later, on the first floor of the new building, a University Pharmacy was opened, where medicinal and cosmetic products created by students under the supervision of instructors were sold at significantly lower prices than market rates.
As noted by IHU President Sergiy Kivalov on the opening day of the pharmacy: " Affordable medicines will be sold in the University Pharmacy. Affordable, but of the highest quality. I believe that any higher educational institution should develop not only in scientific and educational terms, but also materially. It is impossible to prepare pharmacists today without specially equipped classrooms directly at the university"
The development of medical education continued in September 2017, when for dental students, a modern dental center was opened at the address: 30, Akademichna St. The new clinic housed 4 classrooms, 3 practical training rooms, a lecture hall, and patient consultation rooms, where IHU students could learn the entire process of providing quality services to patients. The clinic was headed by Honored Worker of Science and Technology Leonid Dmytrovych Chulak, Head of the Department of General Dentistry.
Thirteen training and clinical rooms are equipped with the latest dental equipment, comfortable chairs, and drill machines with sensor-controlled lighting. The prosthodontics rooms feature the most advanced technology: a ceramic firing furnace made in Liechtenstein, and a sandblasting machine for metal polishing. Additionally, the most modern computer tomography system manufactured in South Korea, the only one of its kind in Odesa. Using this high-tech equipment, doctors can obtain panoramic images, conduct computer tomography and tele-radiography for both adults and children.
Summing up the educational development of the International Humanitarian University during this period, it should be noted that by the end of 2017, specialists were being trained in a record 52 educational programs, specifically: 14 bachelor's degree specialities; 9 specialist-level specialities; 14 master's degree specialities; 9 junior specialist-level specialities; 6 doctoral specialities.
In 2014, the Department of Business Administration and Corporate Security launched a unique double-degree Master's program, International MBA, in collaboration with the G. Marconi University in Rome, allowing students after graduation to obtain two diplomas — a Ukrainian diploma and a European diploma (recognized in EU countries and the USA).
Since 2012, the "golden period" of cooperation between IHU and foreign educational institutions and other organizations began. Thus, during 2011-2012, under the leadership of Professor D.A. Zaitsev, a scientific project in collaboration with Xidian University in Xi'an (Shaanxi Province, China) was being carried out. This project "Production Management Based on Petri Nets" won a research competition for 2011–2012 and is still funded by the state budgets of both countries.
In addition, the university's students have repeatedly won state and international competitions in Chinese language proficiency. One of the most well-known language competitions is held annually by the government of the People's Republic of China, called "Chinese Bridge".
And in May 2012, an agreement on cooperation was signed with the Ministry of Higher Education of Kano State (Nigeria), which was based on a meeting with the Honorary Consul of Ghana, Dr. Albert S. L. Kitcher, in May 2012.
Between 2012 and 2017, connections were established with universities in countries such as China, Turkey, Moldova, India, Germany, Belgium, Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt, Georgia, Poland, France, and others. Within the framework of this cooperation, top lecturers from Europe and Asia conducted lectures for students of the International Humanitarian University, while students had the opportunity to study at foreign institutions alongside their education at their "alma mater". For example, on April 13, 2017, the Vice President of the Belgian Union of Germanists and Teachers of German, Professor Thorsten Leuschner lectured at the Faculty of Linguistics and Translation. And in October, Professor D.A. Zaitsev from IHU received an invitation to give lectures at the New Jersey Institute of Technology and at Stony Brook University in New York.
During this period, memorandums of cooperation were signed, including but not limited to, with: the Academy of Sciences of Moldova; the "European School of Informatics and Economics" University (Poland); the Georgian "Kavkasioni" Educational University (Kutaisi, Georgia); the American International Academy of Language and Professional Training "AIALT" in Cairo (Egypt); the Higher School of Business in Dąbrowa Górnicza (Poland); the Canadian International College "SIC" in New Cairo (Egypt); the New European College in Munich (Germany); the Academy of Tourism in Antalya (Turkey); the "Arel" University (Turkey) and many others.
A delegation from the Ministry of Education of Kano State, Federal Republic of Nigeria visited the International Humanitarian University. The delegation was led by the highly respected Commissioner for Special Assignments, Brigadier General Idris Bello Dambazau, the esteemed Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Baraka Sani Buhari, and the Minister at the Embassy, Olavale Emmanuel Ave. According to this Agreement, it was planned that around 1500 new students from Nigeria would arrive at IHU for the following academic year.
In 2014, the Rector of the Educational University "Kavkasioni" (Georgia), R. T. Lomaiya, visited the University. As a result of this visit, it was decided to open the Distance Learning Center of the International Humanitarian University at the "Kavkasioni" Educational University with an intake of 500 students.

September 2015. Lecture for students as part of the work of the France-Ukraine Exchange Federation (FEFU)
In 2015, the University began working with the France-Ukraine Exchange Federation (FEFU) between Ukrainian educational institutions and French organizations. In November 2016, IHU participated in the ‘Odesa-Indre’ project, within which students underwent teaching internships in educational institutions in France.
However, the culmination of the development of international cooperation at the International Humanitarian University was the signing of the agreement in March 2017 regarding the multidisciplinary department of the University based at Oxford Academic Union.
